Content Repurposing | Adapting for LinkedIn Content Marketing

LinkedIn is fast becoming one of the most important B2B content platforms and is a prime medium for repurposing content. Content repurposing is also known as content recycling, and it is a valuable part of any content marketing strategy.

In this article, I look at how you can use LinkedIn to recycle content. In particular, I focus on adapting audio and visual content from YouTube and podcasts to the platform.

The importance of LinkedIn content marketing

LinkedIn today has close to one billion users, and it is the No. 1 B2B social media platform out there. More importantly, LinkedIn does not have any of the noise associated with the other major social media platforms.

By this I mean, that it is built for purpose — business networking. This is unlike X where you have to wade through toxic political debates before even thinking about connecting with leads or potential leads. Or Instagram, where you have to dodge thirst pics. Or Facebook where AI chaos and anarchy reigns.

With LinkedIn, you have some assurance that everybody on here is willing to listen to your business proposition or that they’re ready to make their proposition. This means that LinkedIn content marketing can be straightforward.

Another thing about LinkedIn is how diversified it is. It is not simply a social media platform. The platform allows you to communicate in four major ways:

  1. Through traditional social media posts on the timeline or TL

  2. Through LinkedIn Newsletters

  3. Through LinkedIn Articles

  4. Through long and short-form videos

Each of these methods has its advantages. The traditional social media posts on the TL allow you to gain new followers and engage with those who already follow you. This provides the perfect opportunity to turn likes into leads.

LinkedIn Articles and LinkedIn Newsletters are from LinkedIn Pulse. They can be described as blogging formats. Newsletter sends notifications out to your subscribers each time you post a newsletter. This is the main difference between it and LinkedIn Articles. However, both formats are essentially blogs.

LinkedIn Newsletters or Articles are searchable and rankable on the Internet. They provide the perfect opportunity to use SEO. This means that these articles can have a life beyond LinkedIn.

LinkedIn videos are the latest addition to the platform. With the TikTok short video frenzy, LinkedIn has joined the bandwagon. With such a diverse platform, LinkedIn provides multiple opportunities to repurpose content. We will take a look at how to take advantage of LinkedIn to recycle content.

Adapting podcasts and YouTube videos

Podcasts and YouTube videos provide the opportunity for your followers to binge content. Such audio and visual content is much more dynamic than blog content. Readers spend less energy paying attention to such content compared to reading a blog.

However, what if you want a different audience than those who binge content? A platform like LinkedIn allows you several options for recycling content to do just that. This is especially true when considering that YouTube videos and podcasts often involve interviews with interesting guests, even thought leaders. To adapt podcast and YouTube content for LinkedIn, you can do the following:

  • Take interesting video clips and turn them into shorts

  • Turn YouTube videos into LinkedIn Articles and NewsLetters

  • Turn the recycled LinkedIn Articles into a series of TL posts

The shorts will enable you to take advantage of the interest and popularity of shorts as exemplified by the popularity of TikTok. LinkedIn Newsletters and articles allow you the chance to reach a broader audience besides your loyal followers.

After all, SEO content brings anyone searching the keywords that your LinkedIn article is optimized for. This provides an opportunity to create new followers.

Posting every day on LinkedIn TL can be tiring. How on earth do you come up with new ideas to post? Well, a YouTube video or a podcast is ripe to garner fresh ideas from. This keeps your followers engaged and interested without them having to come across the same post from a few weeks ago.

Social media platforms like LinkedIn are becoming more and more hostile toward the idea of linking out. Gone are the days when you could publish an article or make a video and post it on the TL for engagement. LinkedIn actively penalizes you in terms of reach when you include foreign links in your posts.

Some have suggested a workaround where you include the link in the comment section of the post. However, this is not foolproof as LinkedIn now has taken to hiding links posted in comments.

Content repurposing for the platform solves this problem. It allows you to make the most of already existing content while working within the restrictions of LinkedIn.
